About Fidya

What is Fidya?

Fidya is a mandatory charitable donation in Islam that provides compensation for missed fasts during Ramadan. It is intended for individuals who are unable to fast—and will not be able to make up those fasts later—due to chronic illness, advanced age, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. By paying Fidya, one fulfills their religious obligation by providing food to those in need.

Fidya vs. Qadha (Make‑up fasts)

Qadha requires the individual to fast the missed days at a later date when they are able. Fidya is used when the person cannot fast at any time in the future, ensuring the obligation is fulfilled by feeding the poor instead.

How much is Fidya?

The amount equals the cost of providing one Iftar meal to a needy person for each missed day. Our platform updates the daily rate based on local staple food prices, typically ranging between €5–10.

How is Fidya used?

Collected Fidya funds are distributed to partner charities that deliver meals to families in need during Ramadan, ensuring the payment directly benefits those who would otherwise go hungry.
